Working Principle of JDB-1 Bushes

JDB-1 Bushes are self-lubricating bushes made from high tensile manganese bronze with embedded solid graphite lubricant plugs. These bushes are specially designed for high-load and low-to-moderate speed applications where regular lubrication is difficult or impossible.

How JDB-1 Bushes Work

When the shaft starts rotating or sliding inside the bush, slight friction occurs between the shaft surface and the bronze bush material. This generates a small amount of heat. The graphite plugs embedded in the bronze surface begin to release microscopic graphite particles due to friction and heat. The graphite slightly expands and comes into contact with the moving shaft.

The moving shaft spreads the graphite over the contact surface, creating a thin self-lubricating film between the shaft and the bush. This film prevents direct metal-to-metal contact. The graphite film reduces friction, minimizes wear, lowers operating temperature, and ensures smooth movement even without external oil or grease lubrication. As operation continues, fresh graphite is continuously supplied from the embedded plugs, maintaining lubrication throughout the service life of the bush.
